Brief history of Dodge

Dodge is one of the great American car companies. They have created a long line of vehicles to suit the everyday driver and commuter to the rugged, commercial grade trucks associate with the brand. Owners of these vehicles can be proud of the history that preceded the make and model they depend on every day. Two brothers, Horace and John Dodge, began the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle company in 1914, after having worked as manufacturers of bicycles and automotive parts. Their first vehicle was a touring car that proved a fast favorite with car buyers; it was soon joined by a roadster and a four-door sedan. By 1917, the company's model line had grown to include trucks. Dodge cars and trucks were used as staff vehicles and ambulances in World War I. Throughout the 20s they were one of the top producing brands in the country. In 1927, the innovation of hydraulic breaks brought them so much attention that the company was sold to Walter Chrysler. The army cars were discontinued and the front wheel breaks were featured on the newer models. With further innovations in style and function, the price of the car rose, making more money for the car company. The more popular the car became, the greater profits the company shoed. The merger with Chrysler made huge strides in creating more jobs and more cars in American driveways. Some of the most popular models over the years have become icons in the nations history. In 1925, the Red Ram was a precursor to Ram series of today. In the 60s, sedans became iconic vehicles on the road. The Lancer was also a popular compact car, as well as the Dart, the Coronet, and the Polara and Monaco. In more recent decades, the Ram has made it’s mark in the commercial and industrial market as a rugged truck perfect for independent and small business contractors. The Dodge Caravan became iconic of soccer moms and busy families across the country. Even the short-lived neon model became known as one of the most inexpensive but fiercely reliable cars for new drivers. The Dodge brand has made huge strides despite the hardships that the American automotive industry has faced. Between the recessions in both the 1970s and in recent years, it continues to be a strong American car, supported by the American people. It has come a long way from its humble roots in Detroit and will prove to be a long standing member of General Motors for years to come. When you’re looking to invest in a new or used car, this tried and true brand has proven itself through a long line of history as one of the great American cars. It would be a great choice for you and your family for its dependability and style.
