Overview of Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo, a legendary brand that has always stood for sportiness and elegance. The flowing lines, aggressive front, total control and top-flight performance of the Alfa Romeo offers unrivalled driving pleasure. Alfa Romeo vehicles are sold and distributed via our UK wide dealer network by Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd.
Alfa Romeo was started in 1910 under the name Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. It was founded in Milan, Italy. The company struggled during World War II with their production of cars. It was hard for them to find parts for their cars, and their factories were getting bombed throughout the war. To help offset this, Alfa started developing parts for airplanes and naval engines. The company took the name Alfa Romeo in 1921 after Nicola Romeo took over the company. However, in the 1950’s Alfa started producing cars once more. They made several new models of cars during this time and they also produced a 1900 model panther police car which is used in Italy. Alfa Romeo continued to have struggles through the 1970’s with the energy crisis and kept struggling through the 1980’s. Then, in 1986 Fiat took over Alfa Romeo along with Lancia. Alfa now started making many new models of cars during the 1990’s including the “Spider” and “GTV”. The Alfa 156 and 147 won the Car of the year in 1998. Under new name changes from Fiat in 2007, Alfa Romeo is now called Alfa Romeo Automobiles SpA.
Alfa has created the Alfa Romeo Museo in Arese, Italy. This museum was created to display the company’s changes throughout the years. It currently has over 100 different models of Alfas on six different levels of the museum. Not only does the museum show the cars, it also shows the changes in the Italian culture and the changes in the company that made it into the company it is today. The museum pulls in about 15,000 visitors a year.
Alfa Romeo currently is making several decisions to expand the company. They are opening a new brand center in Arese, Italy. They are hoping to increase their sales by 300,000 by 2010. The new brand center will help to serve as not only a dealership, but a place for fan clubs to meet and since it is in Arese, it will help the museum they have there by bringing them more cars and more people.
Alfa is yet again bringing their cars back into the US market since they left in 1995. They are hoping to re enter the market by late 2009. Alfa’s 8C Competizione has eighty-four units being sent to the United States, and all eighty-four are currently sold out. This looks good for Alfa on helping them increase their sales. They are also planning on having more cars released to the US in 2010.
